Nobody at Rutland Sailability is paid, all members are 'Unpaid Volunteers'. Membership fees contribute to our running costs (about £45,000/year) and we are very pro-active in seeking grants and donations from both national and local sources.
While we do run our own fundraisers, if you or your organisation feel able to help us out with funding we would be enormously grateful. As a sign of our appreciation and to pay tribute to your organisation, whenever possible, we include a sponsor's or donor's name on our boats and sails.
As anyone that attended will already know, the Rutland Sailability Christmas Fair 2023 was a huge success. We raised £1,822.82 in total and the day itself was very enjoyable.
Months of planning went into the fair, which meant that it all came together perfectly on the day. With enormous thanks to all the member volunteers, carers and even their friends too.
We ran out of raffle tickets on the day and could have sold more. Appreciations must go to the businesses that provided us with such excellent prizes:
And to all the RS members that also donated fabulous items that allowed Vee and Caz to create the hamper prizes. And, of course, to those that sold raffle tickets to their friends and families.
Having built on the lessons learned from the 2022 fair, we fully intend to refine yet more for the 2024 event. Vee will welcome any ideas and suggestions members may have so do speak to her on a Thursday when possible.
Thank you to everyone involved for making the fair such a successful and memorable event.
In October 2023 we held a very successful meeting with Jake Williams the Managing Director of AVH Parks Ltd (part of Anglian Water). Following a quick trip to the Sailability jetty to see RS in action we had further detailed discussion with Jake about the who, what, why and where of Rutland Sailability. The discussion culminated in a generous offer under which Anglian Water would waive the boat fees that we pay, through Rutland Sailing Club, to Anglian Water, for the next 2 years. This amounts to £2,000 in each of the next 2 years. The meeting was also attended by Nick Neve (Commodore Rutland Sailing Club) who was satisfied that this arrangement would not have any impact on RSC members or finances.
For the 2024 season we hope that Jake and some of his team will be able to take up the offer of going sailing with Rutland Sailability.
With grateful thanks to the members of the Rotary Club of Stamford who presented Rutland Sailability with an exciting Fusion Dinghy on April 27th 2023. This donation will extend the experience of sailing for many of our members. For further details please see the article in the
Peterborough Telegraph.
A big thank you to everyone that took part in the recent Rutland Sailability Easter Event.
The participants, the cake bakers, the generous donators and everyone else that helped in any way.
The entries for the Easter egg decorating competition were all very artistic and the votes were shared quite evenly across them all. Having said that there was a clear winner and two entries in joint second place.

The Easter hamper went to Hope in first place while the two people in second place, Val and Charmaine, received smaller prizes.
The Easter Egg hunt itself was not quite as busy as we had hoped for, but those who took part had great fun plus an awful lot of eggs to find. The ‘Golden Egg’ prize was won by an excited grandchild of a member. The event also brought Rutland and Stamford Sound to the club to speak to us. You can listen to the interview courtesy of Andrew Bloomer, and his granddaughters.
Although the event was organised in a bit of a rush, it still raised over £110 and was a great success!
Sailability, #MoreThanSailing
On the August Bank Holiday 2021, the Rutland Vineyard opened its gates for the first time and welcomed people in. For £10 anyone could pick as many sunflowers as they wanted and all the proceeds would go to Rutland Sailabilty.
Three days later over 1,400 people had visited, sunflowers galore were cut and thanks to the amazing generosity of all the visitors Rutland Vineyard had raised £5,147.60 for Rutland Sailability!

appreciated donation of £5,147.60!
Apparently, sunflowers are symbols of hapiness and gratitude - what could be more appropriate for Rutland Sailability
The following week Zoe visited Rutland Sailability and formally handed over the donation to the extremely grateful Chairman and Members of Rutland Sailaibilty.
